Artistic expression has always been a passion in Sarah Kitagawa's life. Even as a small child the coloring books, colors in the big box, or the big pan of watercolors were not sufficient.  Both her creations, and how she created them were precocious. Sarah is the product of generations of artist's and lovers of the arts, so fortunately her talents were nurtured by her family and surroundings. She found and began instruction  at about age 10, by bartering mother's-helper services with an artist friend of the family. Since, Sarah has studied art in Michigan, Hawaii, Massachusetts, and Texas where she now resides. Sarah is currently a member of the National Watercolor Society NWS, Louisiana Watercolor Society LWS, Visual Arts Alliance VAA, and an Elite Signature Member of The Watercolor Art Society - Houston WAS-H. Her works have been included in and been honored with numerous awards in local, national, and international shows, exhibitions and galleries.

As a teen art museum rat, artworks that grabbed Sarah's eye and spirit from a distance, and continued to surprise and delight her the closer she came, were the most inspiring. That quality, and expressing the initial inspiration; the core of what seized her mind and heart always remain the primary focus of her drawings and paintings. With that firmly established in her mind and heart, she develops her concept, composition, and chooses her instruments and palette. Those stages of her creative process can form rapidly, while some works simmer for a while. Once those are established, Sarah is free to work in an unconscious and intuitive manner.  The subjects and compositions of her paintings are recognizable, yet never slavish to realism.  Sarah always strive to take the viewer of her works on an adventure with her; an adventure of the heart, mind and spirit.
